Nollywood Actress Grace Amah Talks On Actresses Who Don't Show Respect To Older Colleagues In The Industry

Speaking with Broadway Africa in an exclusive chat, she explained that there is an air of unprofessionalism.

Then she added that the overall industry has improved here and there with scriptwriting, storytelling and production as major areas.

She said:

“I don't want to use the word 'old and new,' but Nollywood back then, I would say there's a whole lot of difference.

“There was this professionalism. There was this love. There was this care, you could look out for one another. But New Nollywood? I'm sorry to say but there is a lot of desperation. There is a lot of wanting to outshine others, which is not a bad thing.”

“There is this nonchalant [behaviour], not taking the profession as what it should be, not respecting your seniors, just because we find ourselves on a particular set then it looks like everyone is the same, or we are mates.

“But, there's a lot of improvement in terms of scripting, in terms of production, in terms of camera quality, and in terms of story.”

The mother of one also spoke about her long break from the industry, the challenges in adapting with this current industry and her journey back into the mix.

On getting back and being recognized for movie roles by her former colleagues and production crew, she chalks up her success in getting back to God’s grace, prayers and a lot of work.

Amah is a native of Ebunwana Edda in Afikpo local government area of Ebonyi state.

She read Creative Arts at the University of Lagos and began acting as far back as 1999 but really hit the big stage after her appearance in the hit TV drama series Super Story.

On being a single mother, she once replied critics in an interview saying it wasn’t against any law.

She said:

“if I am a single mother, I have not breached any law. For now, I am happy with my son and comfortable.”

She spoke further:

“What is wrong with being a single mother. In marital law, we have separation, living apart and divorce. Couple could for any reason decide to live  separately for a certain time and after that, they reunite. It could be due to work schedules, some challenges  they needed to overcome.

"Two friends about to marry could still have the same challenge and it happens that way. If the relationship produces a child and the woman is living with the child, it does not suggest that the woman is a single mother.

"In any case, if I am a single mother, I have not breached any law. For now, I am happy with my son and comfortable.”
